Education
Public, Private Schools and Daycare
Bozeman is the home of Montana State University, one of the West's most dynamic institutions of higher learning. In recent years, the university has become a regional center for research and development of new technology as well as innovations in tele-communications, laser physics and engineering.

More than 11,500 students from all 50 states and 75 foreign countries are enrolled at MSU. Bachelors degrees are offered in 47 fields with a masters degree in 41 fields and a doctorate in 13. Montana State University is a land grant university with units in Great Falls, Billings and Havre.

The Bozeman Public Schools involve two districts, the elementary and the high school. In Bozeman there are six elementary schools, two middle schools, a high school and an alternative high school.

The elementary schools host between 300 and 500 students each, the two middle schools have between 500 and 600 each and Bozeman High School has an average enrollment of over 1900 students. Twice named an outstanding school by the U.S. Department of Education, the high school consistently graduates students with above average SAT scores. 65% of graduates go on to college.

Bozeman High School has an outstanding music department and the High School Marching Band represented Bozeman in the 1999 tournament of Roses Parade. The high school offers a well-rounded program of academics, art, music, drama, speech and athletics.

One of the important links in the Bozeman school system is the interaction and connection between school and parents. Many parents participate as volunteers in the classroom, or in auxiliary programs supporting the schools and students.

The alternative high school was begun in the mid 90's in answer to a growing need for school for teen moms, students needing to work and for students for whom the traditional classroom setting wasn't appropriate. Over 100 students attend Bridger Alternative High School.
